BELLE EPOQUE" “La Belle Epoque” is French for a beautiful period of time. One such beautiful time came at the turn of the 20th century.
England rebelled against the over-stuffed Victorian parlour with its Arts and Crafts movement whilst France and Europe embraced the Art Nouveau style. These artistic free forms influenced each other and spread their characteristics around the world.

In 1901, the new Federation of Australia was born, influenced by the new art styles from overseas. Arts and Crafts, Queen Anne, Edwardian and Art Nouveau were used with Australian motifs to create a Federation style.
By the late 1920’s, these art styles had served their purpose of inspiring a new art for a new age. The principles of decoration were replaced by the simplicity of functionalism. When Art Nouveau fell out of fashion, it was replaced by the clean, simple geometrics of Art Deco in the 1920’s and 1930’s.

OUR STOCK
We source our stock from auction houses, deceased estates and private individuals. We have imported a container of classic Arts and Crafts furniture from Scotland, where the Arts and Crafts movement originated and have purchased some quality kauri pieces from New Zealand.
We do not stock reproduction furniture. If you have any items that you wish to sell, please email photographs and we will see if we can assist or offer advice.
This web page is updated regularly and all stock is available for sale. Some pieces may be on "hold" for customers but we welcome enquiries in case a sale does not proceed. Measurements are taken of all items from the furthest external points. We can provide internal measurements on request.
If you have any questions about our furniture, please contact us by telephone or email.
